    How MCP works

What is Salary Budget?

Salary hits the account on payday. By week three, hostel food, transport, and “small” spends have eaten the leftover — and you only notice when the balance looks wrong. Spreadsheets and WhatsApp notes don’t warn early, and they don’t know what you already logged with roommates.

Salary Budget is the signed-in ToolYour workspace for that problem: split this month’s net pay into plain categories, optionally pull Shared / hostel actuals from a Group Expenses group you already use, save months on your account, and after a few cycles get tips that name what grew and roughly how much you could reclaim.

Who it is for: salaried people — especially hostel/flatmates, first job, or supporting family — who feel money disappears. Who it is not for: CFOs, investors, or anyone wanting bank sync. What it is not: a bank, a payment app, REST, or MCP.

What are common questions about Salary Budget?

Why do I need to sign in?

Same reason as Group Expenses: your months, templates, and linked hostel group live on your ToolYour account. Guests see a sign-in wall (Google or email). Without login we cannot keep history or connect your groups.

How does Group Expenses connect?

Pick one expense group you belong to. For the open month we fill Shared / hostel actual with your share of that group’s active spends (equal split among people on each spend). Budget targets stay yours to edit. Create groups at Group Expenses first if you have none.

When do savings tips appear?

Soft caps (e.g. Food share of salary) help from month one. After you save three months, we also compare each category to your average and flag growth with an approximate amount to reclaim. Tips are rules, not certified financial advice.

Does this move money or talk to my bank?

No. You settle cash/transfers yourself (including in Group Expenses). Salary Budget only tracks plans and actuals you enter or pull from linked groups.

Is this on the API or MCP?

No. Browser + account only. It is not on the REST catalog, MCP server, or npm SDK.

What are the key features of Salary Budget?

Starter templates

Hostel/flatmate, living with family, or solo apartment — one tap fills budgets as a % of salary so you are not staring at a blank page.

Leftover hero

One big number: left this month or over. Plain sentence on what to trim first.

Shared / hostel sync

Link Group Expenses so flat food and shared spends do not get typed twice.

Month history

Compare you to you — not a blog’s 50/30/20 chart that ignores hostel life.

Savings tips with amounts

After enough months: name the category that grew and ~how much getting back to average would save.

Account login

Required so templates, months, and your expense groups stay private and connected.

How do you use Salary Budget?

Use the same free ToolYour account as Group Expenses.

Enter net salary and pick a template

Hostel, family, or solo — then tweak any line.

Optional: link a Group Expenses group

Refresh Shared/hostel actual from that month’s spends.

Save months and read tips

After a few pay cycles, see what grew and ~what to reclaim.

What need does this solve?

Payday optimism fades into end-of-month surprise. Hostel mates already log shared food in Group Expenses, but personal salary still has no single leftover picture. Salary Budget closes that gap without becoming a bank or another spreadsheet.

How this solves it

  • Split this month’s net salary in categories you understand
  • Pull shared/hostel actuals from a group you already use
  • Keep months so tips compare you to yourself
  • Stay honest: no bank sync, no REST/MCP, tips are guidance not products

Target audience

Salaried employees and first-job earners — especially in hostels or flats — who already feel “money disappears” and may already use Group Expenses for roommate spends.

Limits and honesty

Sign-in required. One linked expense group in v1. Soft-deleted group spends stay out of the pull. Not certified financial advice. Not on REST, MCP, or @toolyour/sdk.
